The mention of the 49 years here made me want to fact check, and it proved to be quite difficult. If one foolishly googles "Hoover Concept II", Google AI overview will happily show a paragraph saying that Concept II was released in 1983, which makes Senator's claim probably a few years off.
But if we manage to look at the source of that information in AI overview, we'll see that it points to a forum post from 2009 where some random person claimed that Concept II was released in 1983, so quite as questionable–if not more–than the original Senator's claim.
I wonder if anyone here has more information about this valuable piece of history.

The earliest I could find in newspapers is December 1978 ($169 in Danbury CT).
It’s a sad day at Grassley household…. For my 34 years and 15 yrs before that at my mother in law’s home Beth has worked dependably….

Yes, I understood that, tried to fact check his claim, and could not :)

It's good that Grassley has found something fun and interesting to do in retirement. So much of our elderly population wastes away watching reruns and eating at Golden Corral.

Lots of other products named "Concept II" too.
